During International Roma Week in 2018, the United Nations met to discuss in the European Parliament. The focus was on the situation of the Roma in Western Balkans. The UN was looking for an innovative way to create empathy for this social problem among all 150 guests.
Together with the UN, we came up with a 360-degree video that should outline the current situation from the eyes of the Roma. Due to the strict regulations of the UN, we fully configured and installed the 150 headsets in advance. With our own network and 150 headsets, we went to Brussels with an event team. We then set everything up and connected the network within 15 minutes. Through our VR Sync software and the connected network, it was possible to play the video in sync with all 150 headsets.
Solutions also had to be devised whereby invitees could watch the video after the plenary session. For this we used our user-friendly Look&Play playback software. This allowed visitors to easily start the video themselves, without being accidentally taken out of the experience through a kiosk mode.
In the video, the guests were shown the story of Fatmira and her Roma community. The impressive video of about seven minutes immediately set the tone for the debate, in which Fatmira herself was also present. The plenary session went smoothly due to the extensive testing we had done in advance. Our event supporters were also present at the session in case there were any questions. The feedback from the attendees was very positive, whereby they gained a better understanding of the current problematic situation through a new innovative way.
